Genesis Going All-Electric by 2030

2022 Genesis G80, Toronto, ON

Going Electric by 2030

As the world moves more toward electrification and being more eco-friendly, automakers are following suit to meet the needs of consumers. Genesis has plans to build its final gas-powered engine by 2025 and go all-electric by no later than 2030.

According to KBB.com’s Sean Tucker, “The roadmap will see eight new Genesis electric vehicles (EVs) — four SUVs and four cars – make up the Genesis lineup. We’ve seen three of them before.” What Tucker is referring to are the GV60, GV70, and the upcoming 2022 G80 EV.

G80 EV

The G80 EV is based on the existing popular luxury sedan, the G80, with an electric powertrain. Genesis estimates that this new EV will reach a range of approximately 426 km, though official certification has not been completed yet. In addition to being efficient, this luxury EV is also slated to be eco-friendly inside, thanks to vegan leather and reclaimed wood offerings.

Not much else has been shared regarding the Genesis EV lineup except for a shadowy image with signature dual-line headlights gleaming through the darkness. The next major auto show, where automakers typically debut new models, is the New York International Auto Show in April. Our team at Genesis Downtown in Toronto is hoping that we get more details sooner than that. Stay tuned for updates on the electrifying future of Genesis.

2022 Genesis G70 Flaunts Fresh Design Language

2022 Genesis G70 Redesign | Toronto, ON

Looking for a vehicle that offers high-quality performance, luxurious appointments, and head-turning style? You’re sure to love the redesigned Genesis G70.

New for the 2022 model year, this sport sedan joins the G80 and G90 in reflecting the Genesis brand’s new Athletic Elegance design philosophy.

“The new Genesis G70 will engage customers with its dynamic design and latest innovations in safety and luxury,” said a Genesis official.

Currently, we know that the new 2022 Genesis G70 will come with enhancements like a more athletic exterior design, a driver-centred interior, and updated technology. On the outside, the signature crest grille will be set lower, while the Quad Lamps spread farther outward to evoke a sprinter’s pre-race posture.

Inside, this compact sport sedan will take design notes from a fighter jet cockpit, offering a seamless driving experience. The new 10.25-inch infotainment system will use an exclusive Genesis user interface that supports wireless updates, valet mode, and CarPay. The wireless charging system will offer a new horizontal layout to fit a wider range of smartphone sizes.

Genesis hasn’t provided a Canadian release date yet for the 2022 G70, but once it arrives, you’ll be sure find it here at Genesis Downtown in Toronto.

All Genesis Sedans Receive IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Title

IIHS Top Safety Pick+ - Toronto, ON

Safety is a top priority at Genesis, which is why it comes as no surprise that the brand’s entire lineup has earned the best safety rating possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The G70, G80, and G90 luxury sedans were all recently named IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the highest possible rating from the organization’s new, more stringent testing.

“There is absolutely no compromise when it comes to customer safety,” said Executive Vice-President Manfred Fitzgerald, Global Head of the Genesis Brand. “Genesis will continue to put our vehicles at the highest standards of safety as we continue to expand our product portfolio.”

In order to earn the top title of Top Safety Pick+, each vehicle had to undergo stringent IIHS crash tests. The title only goes to those vehicles that earn the highest possible ratings of “Good” in the passenger-side small overlap front crash, driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, roof strength, and head restraint tests.

The winners of this title also must get a “Good” rating in headlight testing, along with an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for available front crash-prevention technology.

Genesis GV80 SUV Coming in Early 2020

Genesis GV80 - Toronto, ON

Since its founding, the Genesis brand has focused on one thing — creating high-quality, well-crafted cars. Now, the brand has decided to change things up a bit with its first-ever SUV. The Genesis GV80 will be joining the brand’s lineup sometime during the first quarter of 2020, and we’re looking forward to offering it here at Genesis Downtown.

The Genesis SUV was first introduced three years ago during the New York International Auto Show. It’s set to compete in the luxury midsize SUV segment, coming up against vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Audi Q7.

While we don’t have many specific details about the production GV80, we have seen some spy shots of the vehicle. It looks like this premium SUV will boast a pentagon-shaped grille, thin LED headlights, and other design features that were apparent in the GV80 concept that debuted in 2017.

The GV80 is likely to carry either a 3.8-litre V6 or a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6, though neither option has been confirmed. One thing can be sure, though — since this model is a Genesis, it will boast a beautifully designed interior and an array of advanced technologies.

Along with the GV80, Genesis plans to introduce several other new vehicles within the next few years. This includes the GV70 compact SUV, which is set to hit the market in early 2021.

Canadian Automotive Jury Honors Genesis G70 with 2019 Best of the Best Award

Genesis G70 - Toronto, ON

If you’re looking for a car that’s the best of the best, visit Genesis Downtown to test-drive the 2019 Genesis G70. This model was recently awarded the 2019 Best of the Best award by The Canadian Automotive Jury, adding to its long list of accolades.

To determine the winner of this award, ten prominent Canadian automotive journalists looked at the vehicles from the current model year. Each model is evaluated for its overall appeal with the top-ranked model being chosen from ten finalists, which includes the previous year’s winner.

“The most recent award for the G70 is particularly meaningful,” said Richard Trevisan, brand director of Genesis Motors Canada. “The members of the Canadian Automotive Jury bring together a broad collective expertise and represent some of the top media outlets across the country. This accolade is therefore a testament to the exceptional achievements of our design and engineering teams in creating the G70.”

According to Jeremy Cato, an award-winning auto journalist, “The story here is primarily about road manners. The G70 manages to do something I did not think was possible — deliver what we used to call ‘German’ handling and responses.”

The G70 is the third new Genesis model to hit the scenes. The brand is expected to introduce three more before 2021.
