This is the fourth consecutive year that the entire Genesis lineup has received the coveted TSP+ ranking from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The G70 (built after June 2021), G80, G90, GV70, and GV80 all received the required Good or Acceptable ratings in the organization’s tests.
“Genesis vehicles offer exceptional safety performance, and we are pleased that our high standard for safety has been recognized by IIHS across our entire lineup,” said Brian Latouf, chief safety officer of Genesis Motor North America.
Genesis models are equipped with some of the most innovative crash avoidance technologies and features, allowing them to excel in the IIHS crashworthiness tests. The list includes systems like Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist and Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist as well as eight or more standard air bags. In addition, Genesis vehicles are built with high-strength steel to help protect passengers in the event of a crash.

Genesis vehicles are built to impress, offering a wealth of innovative features and thrilling powertrains with attractive overall designs. As such, it should come as no surprise that every single Genesis model was named to the Car and Driver 2022 Editors’ Choice List.
The automotive experts at Car and Driver (C/D) researched and tested more than 400 vehicles and pared that down to a total of 116 in the final list. Here’s what they had to say about the Genesis lineup:
Genesis GV70, Compact Luxury SUV: As the newest model in the lineup, the GV70 was praised by C/D editors for its sporty handling, engine offerings, and premium interior design.
Genesis GV80, Mid-Size Luxury SUV: Similar to the GV70, the C/D editors noted that the cabin of the GV80 is also elevated and well-tailored. The SUV also stood out for its smooth, quiet ride and its many standard tech features.
Genesis G70, Entry-Luxury Car: The playful handling and premium cabin of the G70 helped this model stand out to the Car and Driver editors. Its affordable price was a bonus that was also appreciated.
Genesis G80, Mid-Size Luxury Car: To directly quote the editors at Car and Driver, the G80 was praised for “Lovely interior design, packed with features, bargain pricing.”
Genesis G90, Full-Size Luxury Car: In a crowded segment, the G90 stood out for its “silky-smooth” engine options, high-end looks, and budget-friendly pricing.

The Genesis GV70 overcame nearly three dozen other SUVs to earn the title of 2022 MotorTrend SUV of the Year. MotorTrend did not mince words about its winner of the Golden Calipers, hailing it as “the best Genesis vehicle ever.”
Each year, the experts at MotorTrend compare vehicles from the world’s major brands to determine their choice for SUV of the Year. The 2022 Genesis GV70 was one of 35 vehicles vying for the year’s top honor, which is based on performance across six major metrics: advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value, and performance of intended function.
Across those six criteria, the 2022 Genesis GV70 stunned MotorTrend editors and contributors by leaving the competition completely in the dust.
“Among a segment already stuffed with intriguing options, the Genesis GV70 is nothing short of a revelation,” writes MotorTrend’s Zach Gale, “and the only choice for the 2022 MotorTrend SUV of the Year honor.”
To call the 2022 Genesis GV70 incredible would be an understatement. If you want to see for yourself why the GV70 is in a class all its own and the clear choice for 2022 MotorTrend SUV of the Year, schedule a test drive at Genesis Downtown in Toronto, Ontario.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety assesses vehicles each year to see how well they protect occupants in a crash and whether they provide crash avoidance and mitigation technology to help prevent or lessen a collision. The 2021 Genesis G80 was recently tested by the IIHS and awarded with the highest TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation.
“This IIHS TSP+ award for the G80 executive sedan, in addition to the three previous TSP+ designations awarded earlier this year, demonstrates the exceptional safety performance and design of our entire vehicle line-up,” said Brian Latouf, Chief Safety Officer of Genesis Motor North America.
The 2021 G80 received a handful of updates, including the Center Airbag that’s located in between the driver’s seat and center console. In the event of a side collision, the airbag deploys in 0.3 seconds to help prevent the front passengers from colliding with each other or vehicle components.
Other standard features that helped the Genesis G80 receive the TSP+ award from the IIHS include its LED projector headlights, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assist. However, that’s just the start for the G80; it’s equipped with additional helpful driver-assist features like Driver Attention Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Highway Driving Assist, and Rear Occupant Alert.
All of this is to say that the 2021 Genesis G80 is not only stunning inside and out, but also supremely safe. To learn more about this award-winning executive sedan, contact our team of Experience Managers at Genesis Downtown in Toronto.
AutoGuide is a trusted source for all things automotive, providing the latest news and reviews for vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. Each year, the editorial team at AutoGuide chooses its top picks in a variety of segments. For the 2021 list, two Genesis models were recognized as the best of the best.
The 2021 Genesis G80 was named the Luxury Car of the Year by AutoGuide. As the model that helped launch the Genesis brand in 2015, the G80 is the signature in luxury. What helped the G80 stand out was its combination of power under the hood, its calm and smooth ride, and its long list of premium materials and features inside. When describing the 2021 G80, AutoGuide managing editor Kshitij Sharma noted, “The G80 is a phenomenal car as it strikes the perfect balance between power, drivability and luxury.”
AutoGuide also named the 2021 Genesis GV80 the Luxury Utility Vehicle of the Year on its list. Having debuted just last year, the GV80 is “a breath of fresh air in the mid-size luxury segment,” according to AutoGuide. The GV80 was praised for similar reasons as the G80, as the SUV offers many high-end amenities, even on its base trim. But the editors at AutoGuide also appreciated some of the available first-class features like the 21-speaker Lexicon® sound system and active noise cancellation.
We could go on about how incredible the G80 and GV80 are, but it’s better if you experience them for yourself. Visit us at Genesis Downtown in Toronto to take either for a test drive.
Each year, a jury of more than 80 Canadian auto journalists analyzes and tests a wide variety of new models to determine the Utility Vehicle of the Year. For 2021, they were especially impressed by the GV70 and its high-quality design, quiet cabin, and cutting-edge safety and infotainment technologies.
“We are pleased that the first-ever Genesis SUV, GV80, has received this prestigious award,” said Richard Trevisan, the brand director of Genesis Motors Canada. “With its bold design and the latest technologies, GV80 exemplifies the ambition of Genesis.”
The GV80 combines beautiful looks both inside and out with impressive performance from its 300-horsepower 2.5-liter turbo or 375-horsepower twin-turbo V6. With technologies like the Ergo Motion Driver’s Seat, Road Active Noise Cancellation, and Smart Cruise Control that can learn your driving habits, the GV80 provides an exceptional driving experience.

Here at Genesis Downtown in Toronto, we think our G80 sedan is a great value — and J.D. Power agrees. This premium midsize car recently received the 2021 Canada ALG Residual Value Award for its segment, which means it is the vehicle in its segment that is most likely to retain its value over time.
J.D. Power Awards
The awards look at mainstream and premium vehicles over a span of time: four years for mainstream and three years for premium. J.D. Power then analyzes the vehicles to see which holds the highest percentage of its manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).
“We pride ourselves on the outstanding quality of our vehicles,” said Richard Trevisan, Brand Director of Genesis Motors Canada. “This award reinforces our commitment to providing the best possible products and ownership experience to our customers. We are thrilled that G80 has been recognized as the leader in this category.”
This isn’t the first time that J.D. Power has recognized Genesis as a leader in the industry. In 2020, Genesis ranked number one among premium automotive brands in the J.D. Power 2020 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS) for the fourth year in a row.
Additional Genesis Accolades
The brand has also earned awards from other organizations. The brand received four 2021 autoTRADER.ca awards, and three Genesis vehicles were nominated as category finalists in the AJAC Canadian Car of the Year awards.

The winners of the 2021 autoTRADER.ca Awards were recently announced, and Genesis led the way. Vehicles from this premium carmaker earned a top spot in three award categories, helping Genesis tie for the most awards received from autoTRADER.ca this year.
These awards were decided by a panel of over 20 automotive experts across Canada. They looked at every car on sale in the Canadian market right now, evaluating them on 12 criteria: value, innovation, performance, engineering excellence, user-friendliness, driving satisfaction, design, quality of materials, fuel efficiency, safety, overall excellence, and technology and on-board features.
The first Genesis model to earn recognition was the Genesis G70. This sedan earned the Best Overall Car award, making it the best option in the entire industry. The G70 also won its segment’s category, earning the title of Best Compact Luxury Car. autoTRADER.ca celebrated its powertrain options, smooth handling, and luxury features.
Genesis also received awards for the Genesis G90 and Genesis GV80 in the Best Large Luxury Car and the Best 3-Row Luxury SUV categories. Panel members were impressed by the G90’s luxurious interior, which features premium comforts like Nappa leather seating, a 22-way driver’s seat, and innovative technologies. For the GV80, the panel noted its attractive design, high-tech features, and conveniences like a massaging front chair.
Genesis is known for creating reliable, long-lasting vehicles — and the 2020 J.D. Power Dependability Study agrees. The luxury car brand was recently named the No. 1 overall brand in this prestigious study, and also earned the top spot with the Genesis G80 in the Midsize Premium Car Segment.
“In a constantly improving business like the automotive industry you’ve got to be there for your customers,” said Mark Del Rosso, CEO of Genesis Motor North America. “These awards, given years after these cars were initially sold, demonstrate our commitment to providing industry-leading reliability.”
This study looks at the problems per one hundred vehicles (PP100) of each carmaker, awarding the top spots in their ranking to those brands and vehicles with the lowest level of problems.
The Genesis brand boasted less than one problem per vehicle over the course of the last 12 months, according to original Genesis owners of three-year-old vehicles. Its PP100 score was 89, which is 34 percent better than the industry average.
In particular, the brand saw a trend of being better than its competitors in areas like the driving experience, heating/ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), interior, and seating.
This is the first time that the Genesis brand has won the top spot on the J.D. Power Dependability Study.
Experience the quality of Genesis vehicles for yourself by test-driving the G80 or one of the brand’s other models here at Genesis Downtown in Toronto.
Genesis is known for creating beautiful vehicles, which is why it should come as no surprise that two of the brand’s models were recently honored as 2019 Good Design Award winners. Both the Mint concept car and the 2020 G90 sedan earned recognition in this prestigious annual competition.
“As a relatively new brand, Genesis has introduced a design that greatly resonates with the luxury car market,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Hyundai Motor Group’s chief design officer. “The G90 is the embodiment of flagship transportation while the Mint reinterprets what a luxurious, city-focused runabout could be. The Good Design awards are a high-water mark we aim for each time we put pen to paper.”
The brand’s Athletic Elegance design philosophy is reflected in the Mint Concept with its sculpted body lines and sweeping silhouette. The all-electric vehicle has a range of innovative design elements to help it maximize space, while also providing top-notch performance and comfort. For instance, the G-Matrix diamond-shaped pattern is used on the battery floor to help the air circulate and the battery cool. Other innovations include a swiveling bench seat to easily get in and out of the vehicle and a storage compartment that is accessed through reverse scissor doors.
The 2020 G90 is also designed with Athletic Elegance in mind. Its headlamps and taillamps incorporate the G-Matrix design, while its spacious interior utilizes the brand’s Horizontal Architecture for an elegant feel.
While the Mint concept hasn’t entered production yet, the 2020 G90 is available for you to admire — and test-drive — right here at Genesis Downtown.
